What the makeup trial is for
At the trial we refine the details that there is no time for on the wedding day. I match the foundation to your skin in daylight, and we check whether you prefer soft or more defined eyes, which lashes will be comfortable for you and which lip shade suits your dress best.
It is also time for a conversation. We agree on the time the preparations start, the number of people who need makeup and the place where you will be getting ready. That way, on the wedding day we both know exactly what to expect, and the morning goes calmly.
When to have the trial
Ideally once you have chosen your dress and have an idea for your hairstyle, because then it is easier to judge the whole look. Most often this is from a few weeks to three months before the wedding. A very early trial only makes sense if you want to be sure about your makeup artist, but then remember that your skin and tan may change before the wedding.
If you can, book your hair trial on the same day. Then you will see how the makeup and the updo look together. In winter, plan the trial for the middle of the day: in Giżycko the sun sets as early as around 3:10 pm in December, and it is worth seeing the makeup in daylight too.
What to bring to the trial
- a photo of your dress and accessories, ideally in daylight,
- an idea for your hairstyle, ideally with a photo,
- makeup inspiration, if you have any, and also examples of makeup you do not like,
- a top in a colour similar to your dress, white or ecru, with a similar neckline,
- earrings or the jewellery you will wear for the wedding,
- a lipstick you like to wear every day, to compare it with my suggestions.
If you wear contact lenses, put them in before the trial. Also tell me about any allergies and skin sensitivity.
How to prepare your skin
Come to the trial with clean, moisturised skin and no makeup. Do not have new treatments or strong peels just before it, because reddened skin will not show the true result. If you are planning brow tinting or a brow lamination before the wedding, have it done before the trial. Then we will see the makeup with the brows you will have on your wedding day.
What the trial looks like
It is worth setting aside about one and a half to two hours for the trial. We start with a conversation about your preferences and inspiration. Then I do your makeup, showing you options along the way: for example, we can compare two lip shades or different intensities of eyeliner. At the end we take photos in daylight and with flash, because flash photos reveal what you cannot see in the mirror.
I note down all the shades and products. On the wedding day we do not guess; we recreate the agreed makeup, including any adjustments.
Lashes, eyeliner and accessories: what to check at the trial
The trial is the best moment to test lashes. Individual lashes in the outer corners add definition and look natural, while strip lashes give a stronger effect but are not comfortable for everyone. It is better to check this calmly than for the first time on your wedding day.
Let us also check how the makeup looks with your veil, earrings and the colour of your bouquet. A veil gently diffuses light and softens makeup, and large earrings or a necklace draw the eye to the face. If you have these accessories, bring them with you or show me photos of them.
How to judge your makeup after the trial
It is best to keep the makeup on for a few more hours. You will see how it behaves on your skin, whether it darkens, whether the T-zone gets shiny and whether the lashes are comfortable. Look at it by the window, in artificial light in the evening and in phone photos taken with flash.
Above all, listen to yourself. The opinions of your loved ones are valuable, but you are the one who should feel beautiful and comfortable in this makeup. If anything bothers you, even a small detail, write to me about it. That is what the trial is for.
Adjustments and changes before the wedding
After the trial we can still change a lot: the lip shade, the intensity of the eyes, the type of lashes. Just let me know, and I will include it in my notes for the wedding day. If something important changes between the trial and the wedding, for example your dress, your hairstyle or your tan, also tell me in advance, so that I can adapt the makeup.
Where the trial takes place
We usually do the trial in Giżycko, because it is my main place of work. If you live further away, or the trial is to be combined with another visit, write to me, and we will agree on a place and date that suit your calendar.
The makeup trial in the bridal package
The bridal package includes the makeup trial and my presence throughout the wedding day, with makeup touch-ups as we go. I book the package date once we have agreed the terms of our cooperation individually and you have paid a deposit of the agreed amount, which counts towards the total price of the service. We set the date of the trial together after booking. You can read more about the package on the bridal makeup page.
