Getting ready in a hotel in Mikołajki
In Mikołajki most of my brides get ready in a hotel, often the same one where the reception takes place. It is convenient, but a hotel room has its limitations, which are worth thinking about in advance:
- Light. Ask for a room with a large window, ideally facing the lake. I do makeup by the window, because artificial yellow lamplight can distort colours.
- Space. If I am doing makeup for several people, a second room or a suite helps, so that the bride can have a moment of peace.
- Air conditioning. It dries the skin and lips, so before makeup I hydrate the skin thoroughly, and during the day, when doing touch-ups, I moisturise the lips with a balm.
- Access and parking. Let me know where I can park and how to get to your room, so that we do not lose time at reception.
Booking and the makeup trial
Wedding Saturdays in Mikołajki fill up quickly in the season, so write to me as soon as you know your date. I book a bridal package date once we have agreed the terms individually and you have paid a deposit, which counts towards the price of the service. The cost of travel from Giżycko is included in your individual quote.
The makeup trial is included in the price of the bridal package. We arrange it once you have your dress and an idea for your hairstyle. We can meet in Giżycko or at your place, and if you live far away, we will plan the trial so that it is convenient for you.
A wedding photo session on the promenade and in the harbour
The promenade on Lake Mikołajskie, the harbour full of yachts and the wooden jetties are the classic backdrop for wedding photos in Mikołajki. The water reflects light like a reflector, so the face is brightly lit, which is good news for makeup: a natural glow is enough, without a strong highlighter.
In summer the promenade can be full of tourists. Photographers often suggest a session early in the morning or in the evening, during the golden hour. If the session is on a different day from the wedding, I can also do your makeup for that day; then we can allow ourselves a slightly stronger accent, for example bolder lips.
Near Mikołajki there is also Lake Łuknajno, known for its swan reserve, and plenty of jetties and meadows by the water. These places are quieter than the town centre, but more exposed to the wind, so mascara and brows need to be well set.
Makeup that lasts a day by the water
Weddings in Mikołajki often go on until morning, and some of the photos are taken outdoors. That is why I focus on:
- careful skin preparation and thin layers of foundation,
- a matte T-zone, with glow only on the tops of the cheekbones,
- waterproof mascara and long-wearing brow products,
- lips that survive the toast and dinner, for example a long-wear lipstick with a lip liner,
- setting the whole look at the end.

A sample plan for the day in a hotel in Mikołajki
When the preparations, the ceremony and the reception are all in one place, it is easier to plan the day. An example for a 3 pm ceremony, with makeup for the mother of the bride, the maid of honour and the bride:

Summer in Mikołajki: sun, sails and your skin before the wedding
Mikołajki in summer means sails, boat trips on the lakes and long days by the water. If your wedding is in the season and you are planning a holiday in Masuria beforehand, look after your skin:
- on the water the sun is stronger than it seems, because it reflects off the lake, so use sunscreen even on cloudy days,
- avoid sunburn and strap marks in the last weeks before the wedding, because they are hard to conceal with bare shoulders,
- wind and sun dry out the lips, so use a lip balm with SPF regularly,
- if your skin gets a tan, let me know before the wedding: I will match the foundation shade to its current colour.
For the session by the lake itself, blotting papers and a lipstick in the shade from your makeup come in handy. That is enough to look fresh even after several hours of celebrating.
A photo session on a yacht or a boat
Mikołajki is one of the most important sailing harbours in Masuria, so some couples choose a session on a yacht or a short cruise on the lake. The photos are beautiful, but the conditions are the toughest for makeup:
- on open water the wind is stronger than on the shore, and the sun shines from every direction, including off the surface of the lake,
- water droplets and wind are a test for mascara and brows, so I go for waterproof products,
- I mattify the T-zone and set the skin well, so that it does not look shiny in harsh light,
- it is worth pinning up your hair so that the wind does not blow it across your face in every photo.

In a hotel it is easy to get several people ready in one place. I can do makeup for your mum, maid of honour, bridesmaids or sister. It is worth planning about an hour per person, and we set the order so that the bride is ready without any rush, with time to spare for photos of the preparations.
