Getting ready in Giżycko: home, hotel or guesthouse

I come to brides in Giżycko wherever they are getting ready: the family home, an apartment, a hotel or a guesthouse by the lake. Most often the preparations take place where the bride is staying, and the photographer takes photos of this part of the day.

Whatever the place, I ask for three things:

  • a spot by a window, ideally with daylight falling on your face,
  • a chair and a small table or worktop where I can lay out my cosmetics,
  • a little calm: it is best when there are a few people in the room, not the whole family at once.

If you are getting ready in a hotel, it is worth booking a room with a larger window or asking for a room facing the lake. Air conditioning dries the skin, so in hotel rooms I take particular care with hydration before foundation.

When to book a makeup artist in Giżycko

Most weddings in and around Giżycko take place between May and September, and Saturdays at the height of the season are booked well in advance. Write to me as soon as you know your wedding date. Tell me the time of the ceremony, where you will be getting ready and the number of people who need makeup, and I will check my availability and prepare a quote.

I book a bridal package date once we have agreed the terms individually and you have paid a deposit, which counts towards the price of the service. The makeup trial is included in the price of the bridal package; in Giżycko we usually do it at your home, in light similar to that on the wedding day.

A wedding photo session in Giżycko: the harbour, the swing bridge and Boyen Fortress

Giżycko has several places that photographers choose for outdoor sessions. Each has different light, and that affects the makeup:

  • The harbour and waterfront on Lake Niegocin. Open space, water and lots of sky. In the evening the sun sets over the lake, and the warm light beautifully enhances glowing skin. When the wind blows off the water, long-wearing mascara and well-set brows come in handy.
  • The Łuczański Canal and the swing bridge. The bridge is one of the most recognisable places in town. Photos by the canal have lots of greenery and reflections in the water, so warm, natural shades of blush and lipstick look good in them.
  • Boyen Fortress. Brick walls, greenery and deep shade by the walls. In the shade the face looks cooler, so I gently warm up the complexion with bronzer and do not skip the blush.

Boyen Fortress is a historic site with its own visiting rules, so it is worth asking the management about a photo session in advance. In the tourist season the harbour and the bridge can be crowded, so the session is best planned early in the morning or in the evening.

The golden hour on Lake Niegocin

The golden hour is roughly the last hour before sunset. In Giżycko the sun sets at around 9 pm in June, around 8 pm in mid-August and before 7 pm in mid-September. A session in this light usually takes place during the reception, several hours after the makeup.

That is why for weddings with an evening session I choose long-wearing products, and just before the session I refresh the makeup: I mattify the forehead and nose and touch up the lips. With the bridal package I stay with you all day, so in the sunset photos you look as fresh as in the morning.

How much time bridal makeup takes

For unhurried makeup, it is worth planning about an hour per person. For the bride I set aside a little more time for details and touch-ups during the photos of the preparations. For example, for a 4 pm ceremony in Giżycko with makeup for the bride and the maid of honour:

A sample makeup plan before a 4 pm ceremony in Giżycko
TimeWhat happens
12:30I arrive and set up my station
12:45makeup for the maid of honour
13:45makeup for the bride
15:00touch-ups, photos of the preparations, the dress
15:30leaving for the ceremony

I adjust my arrival time to the work of the hairdresser and the photographer. Getting around Giżycko takes only a few minutes, but on summer weekends the centre and the area around the harbour can be congested, so I always plan a margin.

The makeup trial in Giżycko: what it looks like

It is worth setting aside about one and a half to two hours for the trial. We start with a conversation: you show me a photo of your dress, your hairstyle and your inspiration, and I ask about your daily skincare, allergies and the kind of makeup in which you feel your best.

Then I do your full makeup, just as on the wedding day. When it is ready, we look at it by the window, in artificial light and in a phone photo. This is the moment for changes: a more intense eyeliner, a different lip shade, less highlighter. I note down the agreed details so that I can recreate them exactly on the wedding day.

If you can, book your hair trial with the hairdresser on the same day. You will see the whole look and find it easier to make decisions.

An autumn or winter wedding in Giżycko

More and more couples choose an off-season wedding: it is calmer, and the lake and the fortress in mist or frost look exceptional in photos. You do need to remember that the days are short, though. In Giżycko the sun sets at around 5:40 pm in mid-October, at around 4 pm at the end of October, and even before 3:30 pm in December.

For an autumn or winter wedding:

  • we plan the outdoor session earlier, often before the ceremony or straight after it,
  • the skin is drier because of frost and central heating, so hydration before makeup is even more important,
  • the cold wind on Lake Niegocin makes the eyes water, so waterproof mascara is a must,
  • slightly deeper lip shades suit autumn and winter looks well, for example a warm-toned pink or a wine colour.

Which bridal makeup to choose for a Giżycko wedding

Most often brides ask me for natural, elegant makeup: fresh, glowing skin, defined eyes and lips in a shade close to their natural colour. This kind of makeup looks good both in church and outdoors by the water, and in photos it will not look dated after a few years.

If you dream of more dramatic eyes or bold lips, we will try it at the trial. I match the makeup to your dress, hairstyle, flowers and the time of the wedding, and for an outdoor session by the lake also to the wind and sun. You can read more about this in the article Bridal makeup in Masuria.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Giżycko is my town, and I come to your home, hotel, apartment or guesthouse. I also travel to Wilkasy and the surrounding villages.

Where can we have a wedding photo session in Giżycko?

Popular places are the harbour and waterfront on Lake Niegocin, the area around the Łuczański Canal with its swing bridge, and Boyen Fortress. It is worth asking the fortress management about a session there in advance.

How much does bridal makeup in Giżycko cost?

I set prices individually, depending on the number of people and where you are getting ready. The makeup trial is included in the price of the bridal package.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes, for the bridal package. I book the date once we have agreed the terms of our cooperation individually and you have paid a deposit of the agreed amount. The deposit counts towards the total price of the service.

Yes, but remember that the days are short: in December the sun sets in Giżycko before 3:30 pm. In that case we plan the outdoor session before the ceremony or straight after it.
